Born in Winnipeg and raised in Vernon, British Columbia, Jaimie brings the uniquely laidback attitude of the sunny Okanagan to Sugarcain Entertainment.
A BC girl at heart, Jaimie loves to explore new places and has traveled to England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and Cuba as part of her studies. Moving out at the age of 18, she spent her entire first year of university studying at a castle in the UK and has never quite been the same since. Having recently completed her Honours degree in English and Philosophy from Queen’s University in Kingston, Jaimie has now settled in Toronto to pursue her chosen path of journalism.
Following her keen interest in writing, Jaimie is currently taking the Graduate Journalism program at Humber College. Her writing credits include a published article in Okanagan Review Magazine, the occasional A&E piece for the Queen’s University Journal, and freelance work for the Village Gleaner in Toronto.
Jaimie’s multi-faceted interest in journalism goes beyond the written word, however. While in university, Jaimie volunteered as a DJ at the campus radio station, CFRC 101.9 FM. Hosting a variety of shows, her programs ranged from early morning indie, to late night rock, to a sex-ed talk show. Not one to sit back and wait for the music to come to her, Jaimie went out in search of bands/ artists and, along with her cohost Lauren, has interviewed the likes of Sloan, Hot Hot Heat, Tegan and Sara, Kid Koala, Lederhosen Lucil, the Dears, and many more. In addition, Jaimie worked part-time at CHUM Radio Kingston for a year, announcing on 98.3 FLY FM on Saturday nights, and assisting in promotions.
The entertainment scene has been a huge influence throughout Jaimie’s life. Dancing since the age of 3, she has trained in both jazz and tap, and continues to tap dance to this day. High school drama productions helped her to overcome her naturally shy tendency, and by performing in various productions, she quickly developed a love for the spotlight.
Of all her many interests however, Jaimie’s love of music is surely the most significant. Playing lead tenor saxophone in her high school jazz band, she has soloed in a number of competitions and was invited to play for the UBC Provincial Honour Band. This passion for music has since transformed into a fascination with everything rock ‘n’ roll, and someday she hopes to take her interview skills to the pages of Rolling Stone magazine.
Jaimie has quickly found her niche in her new "Roncy" home, where she bartends at a local blues/ jazz bar and works the desk at a popular boxing gym.
Down to earth, and always friendly, Jaimie stands out from the crowd in Toronto by remaining true to her BC roots. Charmingly outspoken, and up for any challenge, she is excited to explore the Toronto scene and shake things up a bit!
