Rendezvous with Home at Summerworks

After a sold out workshop performance at b current’s rock.paper.sistahz, Rendezvous with Home (RWH) (written and performed by Djennie Laguerre, recent host of TFO’s children’s show “Mini TFO”) opens at Theatre Passe Muraille-Backspace on Thursday August 7th, 2008 at 6pm.
Rendezvous with Home tells the story of two Canadian sisters, Josephine and Suzette who take a trip to Haiti to bury the father they never knew. This solo performance is told through a combination of Creole and French expressions, traditional Haitian dance, interactive Haitian style storytelling and live drumming.

According to powerhouse performer/creator, Djennie Laguerre, the play is “told in English, felt in French and danced in Creole.” With its unique style, RWH is perhaps one of the few bilingual and culturally diverse shows in SummerWorks this year, and is sure to be a hit with SummerWorks’ audiences.

“I want to take the audience on a journey to experience the universal human beauty of the Haitian people beyond the clichés.” says Ms. Laguerre.
Dora-award winning actor, director, play creator and comedienne Rhoma Spencer (NOW Magazine’s top 10 theatre artists of 2005) directs this intriguing story, while renowned choreographer Sara Renelique, best known for her work in Cirque de Soleil and Celine Dion’s Colour of My Love tour choreographs the lively dance sequences.

“I am very passionate about the history of Haiti and the resilience of its people and directing this solo show allows me the ability to revel in its culture and heritage to inform its performance.” says Spencer.

Rendezvous with Home opens Thursday August 7th, 2008 at 6pm and runs until Sunday August 17th, 2008.
