Foxy ladies
“Fun, bright and full of excitement” is how Jen Kluger and Suzie Orol, describe life and their smash hit jewelry line, Foxy Originals. With trendsetting fans like Sienna Miller and Paris Hilton, this vibrant, twenty-something Canadian duo has attracted worldwide recognition with their unique line of lead-free pewter necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings.
After meeting at the University of Western Ontario, Kluger and Orol discovered their shared passion for jewelry making and began selling their creations at school, concerts and outdoor festivals. After graduating with business degrees in 2003, the young entrepreneurs turned Foxy Originals into a full-time endeavor and have had loads of success with their ethnic and nature-inspired designs. Surprisingly, even after hit collaborations with world renown enterprises including Mattel, Calvin Klein, Smashbox Cosmetics and Japan based Sanrio Inc., each piece is still handmade by a close-knit production team of talented craftspeople in Foxy’s Toronto studio. What is even more endearing is that after all of Foxy’s success, Kluger and Orol continue to design every piece themselves.
“We are involved in every step of the process,” explains Kluger. “Maintaining that is very important to the both of us.”
Not only do these Foxy ladies take great pride in their hands-on involvement with their company, this proudly Canadian ensemble is environmentally conscious when it comes to manufacturing their products. Everything from lead-free materials and water based sprays, to producing everything in Toronto, avoiding the pollution caused by shipping products from overseas suppliers, supports their green approach to jewelry making. Kluger and Orol are also very proud of the Foxy Recycling Program where customers receive a 15% off coupon code towards their next Foxy purchase when they send in their old Foxy jewelry. Whether it’s a broken necklace or an earring missing its match, the old metal will be melted down and reused to make new items.

Each unique idea for a Foxy piece is aroused from anything including pebbles, twigs or flowers, to a stone pathway in Morocco. The majority of Foxy’s collections are inspired from a particular region of their travels abroad including Marrakesh, Brazil and most recently, the Galapagos Islands. This earthy collection is predominantly nature inspired with pieces like the Equinox earrings, Dragonfly necklace and Mimosa bracelet. The Galapagos collection also features a limited edition Key necklace (available until July 2010) on a 30″ chain available in silver and gold.
Other travel inspired collections include Oceana, Brazilia and Marrakesh, as well as the Enchanted Forest collection, Foxy Favorites and, one of my personal favorites, Wearable Words. This assortment of necklaces with circular pendants are made of uplifting phrases like, “Live, Laugh, Love“, “Dreams Come True” and currently dangling around my neck, “Love and Be Loved“.
Another one of my most coveted items is the Angel necklace, from the Brazilia collection. These angelic wings adjoined by an adjustable 17″ chain rest gracefully on the collarbone and are also available in silver and gold.
Another collection you’ll want to snatch up while you still can is the Barbie® by Foxy Originals collection. In honour of Barbie’s 50th anniversary, this super-cute collaboration with Mattel features rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings inspired by the blonde bombshell’s legendary wardrobe. I absolutely adore the Barbie® Charm bracelet, a 6″ silver chain adorned with all of Barbie’s must-have items; diamonds, heels and an adorable pink clutch.
The most unique piece that every Barbie fan must own is the Barbie® Mirror necklace. The dual-sided pendant features a silhouette of Barbie, as well as a mirror to discreetly check your reflection.
